Message from the President
Dear Active Teachers,
Retired educators across Canada have been anxiously scrutinizing the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in all locations in our country. While we have been devastated by the conditions leading to the loss of so many lives in the senior population, our hearts swell with pride as we reflect on the role that Canada’s teachers have played in caring for our children during this time.
Active Teachers have been forced to contend with Covid outbreaks, constantly changing protocols, open schools/closed schools/reopened schools, on-line learning, flexible attendance schedules, quarantines, shortage of masks and cleaning supplies, the challenges of masks, little or no support for teacher vaccinations–the list is endless. Everything that has happened has heightened the level of anxiety for all concerned.
We applaud all teachers and their Associations, right across Canada as you have risen to the occasion of ensuring the best possible learning for your students. Your strong advocacy for improved safety measures, for increased testing and for vaccinations–all contribute to improving safety in schools and, indeed, all aspects of our society.
We are ACER-CART, l’Association canadienne des enseignantes et des enseignants retraités/Canadian Association of Retired Teachers, a bilingual association of Members representing over 167,000 affiliated members located in all regions of Canada.
On behalf of ACER-CART, the national voice of the retired educational community, I want to express our appreciation and admiration for your leadership during this unique and challenging time. Your heroism has not gone unnoticed – you are amazing.
Yours sincerely,
Gerry Tiede
ACER-CART President
